About

What Angular Baseball is

In one sentence: Angular Baseball is an iPhone app that turns one short phone video of a baseball or softball swing into a coaching report: 13 graded checkpoints, plain-English fixes ranked by severity, and a drill for each, usually in about 30 seconds.

Good swing coaching has mostly gone to families who can pay for weekly lessons and live near a good facility. Angular Baseball gives any hitter with an iPhone the kind of mechanical read a hitting coach gives, in plain English, and keeps every swing so you can see whether a fix held.

What it does

It measures the body and reports hand speed. Here's exactly how a swing is scored, and here's a real report, unedited.

Who it's for

Parents who want to know what their kid should work on, players from about 10 to 18 who want to see their swing get better, and coaches who want to give every hitter on a roster feedback between lessons. Baseball and softball, righty or lefty.

What it costs

Free to start: 2 analyses a day and 5 a week, with no card and no expiry. A free coach account gets 1 analysis per player per day, up to 20 a week. Pro is unlimited and costs $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year, the same price for players, parents and coaches.

What you need

An iPhone on iOS 17 or later, and a side view of the swing with the phone held upright at hip height. Clips can be up to 20 seconds, and the app finds the swing in them.

The name

The App Store name is Angular Baseball: Swing Coach, and the website is angularsports.com. The app is unrelated to the Angular web framework and to "Angular-Baseball", an open-source browser game on GitHub. It was once called SwingAI, which is also the name of a different company's product, WIN Reality's SwingAI.

Who makes it

Angular Baseball is made by Gavin Clawson. For questions, or to set up a club or a team, get in touch.
